The Best Autoresponder for Your Emails

Your best choice leaves you in control

Since 2003, I’ve seen my fair share of autoresponders and one stands out as the best: nuevoMailer.

“Never heard of it,” you might be thinking right now.

No, you’ve probably only heard about the big ones with the huge advertising budgets.

But I’ll tell you why nuevoMailer is better.

I left Kit and MailerLite with 6 months left on my subscriptions

When I used Kit and MailerLite, their limitations drove me crazy.

With MailerLite I couldn’t change a subscriber’s email address. Neither could the subscriber.

Did they allow affiliate marketing? Nope. Not according to their rules.

Yet, I was an affiliate for MailerLite.

When I confronted the affiliate manager about this, she told me that rule should be interpreted in another way.

Soon after, an email marketer got banned from MailerLite for promoting an affiliate product.

Kit is a great autoresponder in many ways.

But the same thing happened when I asked about their policy regarding affiliate marketing. One support agent even told me that I wasn’t allowed to promote my own Kindle books in emails.

The worst was that I couldn’t search for subscribers who hadn’t clicked links in my emails.

You can’t trust open rates. When I wanted to weed out inactive subscribers, I could only follow Kit’s method and that meant using their system. I couldn’t choose the period of inactivity and the system looked at open rates and click rates at the same time.

I paid for a year in both places because it was cheaper.

That turned out to be more expensive, because after six months, I had enough.

And left.

Instead, I chose nuevoMailer.

What is nuevoMailer?

nuevoMailer is self-hosted.

That means that you need to have a domain for it and web hosting. Once it’s installed, it runs like any other autoresponder.

But on your own ground.

If you’re not comfortable installing the software yourself, the programmer can do it for you.

You can send the emails using your own webhost, if they allow it, or with services like Amazon SES.

This gives you more freedom.

The hosted autoresponders will ask for a subscription based on how many subscribers you have.

Besides the software, you also need to pay for hosting. I use the same shared host for all my domains, so it’s not extra for me.

If you use an external service like Amazon SES, you also need to pay for that depending on how many emails you send.

Your list? Great, then it should be in your control

If you want to switch to another autoresponder, you often have to ask if you can import your list of subscribers.

nuevoMailer is the opposite.

You can add new subscribers one at a time, or, if you have many, upload a text or csv file with their names (optional) and email addresses.

And if there’s a feature you really would love to have, you suggest it to the programmer.

If he likes the idea, he’ll implement it.

Over the years since I first used nuevoMailer (2016) I’ve been behind many changes. I suggested tags for subscribers back when not even AWeber had it, and I got it.

I use tags for product names so I can tell who has already bought that product from me. That makes it easy to segment my list.

With searches I can do all kinds of things, like searching for people who haven’t clicked a link in the last 12 months. Or 14 days. You decide.

I’ve had periods away from nuevoMailer. For example the six months I used MailerLite and Kit, but I’ve always returned.

And this time I can’t imagine leaving.

Because nuevoMailer simply is the best autoresponder for me.
